The Nekomata Adoption: The Black Cat Parade
A ragged little procession marching straight out of folklore, brought to life as wearable art.
Designed by Dave Fuse, The Black Cat Parade reimagines the yōkai legend of the nekomata through a haunting single-line illustration—a bandaged, skull-topped figure trailing wisps of smoke, leading two black cats on a solemn march. Rendered entirely in stark black ink on white, the artwork channels the raw, scratchy intensity of old horror woodcuts and underground zine art, turning a small, eerie tale into something bold enough to wear.
The artwork is presented on the back of a substantial white T-shirt, framed by hand-lettered type that reads like it was carved rather than printed. Its regular silhouette provides a structured yet comfortable fit for everyday wear, while the clean white fabric lets the dense linework and high-contrast detail command attention.
Created for those who appreciate independent art, folklore-driven storytelling and original characters, The Black Cat Parade is more than a graphic tee—it's an invitation to walk your own strange procession.
